What They Brought With Them – UNHCR Serbia

Short movie in honour of the 70th anniversary of UNHCR

The short film “What They Brought With Them” is based on the text of a poem by Jennifer Toksvig, inspired by the stories and testimonies of refugees about the suffering they experienced when they were forced to leave their homes due to conflict and persecution, as well as about the items they managed to take with them.

The poem was first translated into a video made by Cate Blanchett, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and famous actor and presented to a UK audience in 2016. Since then, it has been translated into German, Polish and Serbian.

Filming in Serbia was organized on the initiative of Branka Katić, an actress and prominent UNHCR representative for refugee rights, who was joined by famous actresses and actors: Jasna Đuričić, Jana Milosavljević, Mladen Sovilj, Milos Petrović Trojpec, Nedim Nezirović, Aleksandar Vučković, Branimir Popović, as well as the writer Vladimir Tabašević.

The promotion of the video “What they brought with them” was realized in November 2021, at the Yugoslav Cinematheque.
