45 years in Serbia – UNHCR Serbia
The celebration of the jubilee took place in the Yugoslav Drama Theatre where more than 200 invitees gathered for the first time after the COVID 19 pandemic isolation.
The official part included speeches held by Francesca Bonelli (UNHCR Representative In Serbia), Commissioner Vladimir Cucić and Darija Kisić Tepavčević (Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy of the Republic of Serbia).
The programme was enriched by extraordinary perfomances by Nikola Demonja (saxophonist) and the rap band „Pretty Loud“ (six charming Roma girls).
As a part of the UNHCR programme „Community based support in integration“ the event highlight was a theatre play, created as a collaboration between two wonderful ladies Branka Katić (actress, and newly appointed, prominent refugee rights ambassador) and Dara De Luka, director and screenwritter.
This extremely emotional piece, lasting 17-minutes, showed inserts of lives of those who had to flee their homes and how others see them.
After the programme in the main hall, the event was topped with the cocktail.
In a positive atmosphere, with lots of compassion and warm words, the strong message of support for refugees was sent, along with the overall idea of empowering women.
